For some years now, the Bavarian capital has been seeing more and more French Bulldogs running around. While the dachshund was originally the traditional dog of the locals, the bully is apparently the new generation of the Munich Zamperl. Zamperl are also called other small dog breeds, mixed breeds or, more generally, puppies. They are loyal companions, part of the Bavarian attitude to life and a symbol of the city.
The ‘French’ Bulldog actually comes from England
In contrast to the DackelThe French Bulldog originally comes from England, where it was bred by the Wittelsbach family. It originated in the 19th century from an English Bulldog. The English Bulldog is considered to be aggressive and was kept as an agitator and fighting dog. When dog fighting was banned in England, hardly anyone wanted to keep a bulldog. When English labourers began crossing the dog with pugs and terriers, today's bully developed. In 1836, the new unusual dog breed with the short legs and standing ears was first shown at a dog show.
Craftsmen from England who emigrated to France took the new breed with them and spread it further there. At the end of the 19th century, the French Bulldog also came to America and enjoyed great popularity for a while.
The Bully is very suitable as a city dog
The dachshund is actually the typical pet of the people of Munich and a symbol of the city. Malicious tongues claim that it is just as stubborn and wilful as the locals. But in recent years the French Bulldog is becoming increasingly popular in Munich. This is not only due to their unusual appearance, but also to the dog's uncomplicated nature. It is also an ideal city dog, as it needs relatively little exercise and rarely barks.
Zamperl app for Munich residents
On Marienplatz Munich residents can provide their thirsty four-legged friends with water at the Fischbrunnen is a special drinking station near the ground. The city of Munich even has its own Zamperl app. It provides information on where dogs must be kept on a lead in the city and where they are not. Dogs are generally prohibited in playgrounds and on meadows marked with green posts.
